I want to know the topics the book covers and I want to make sure that it is appropriate for the child who is asking to read it. I have not censored many books over the years and as my oldest is heading into his teens, I often 'cheat' by having him read a book before his little brothers if I do not have the time.
And lastly... SHHHH! Don't tell the boys... I enjoy it.
What this means... every book in my classroom library
I have read!
Poor students... they will never get away with making up a fake book report if their teacher has read all of their books! The problem I have is that sometimes it has been so long since I last read a book that I forgot what it was all about.
So... I am reviewing the books I read. I am posting this on Monday to correlate with the weekly linky on this topic. Look for my adorable logo to see what I am reading this week!
This way I can just simply search through and then I will have my notes on the subject. Perhaps, I will even come up with some lesson plans to go with some of them to share with all of you or you can comment and share yours with me.
I am also re-reading through as my children seem to pick the same books over and over again. I want to challenge them to discover new adventures.
I am also starting to weed out what I do and do not want in my classroom. The boys have hundreds of books. I feel that every book in my classroom library should be seen as a recommendation from me. I want to provide materials that are both enjoyable and challenging.
I know that I will need multiple reading levels so that all my students have options. The question is... how does one know what should and should not be included?
Kudos! I try to read them all, but some of the series with 30+ books kills me!
