My oldest had art when he first started school and then it all disappeared. Art was replaced by computers and classroom teachers were required to add some creative time to the lesson plans without losing an instructional minute.
I don't know about you but my skills with art are not so good. My own sons laugh at my stick figures. Do you really want me teaching your child about art? I didn't think so!
I found this amazing blog... Art with Mr. E! You HAVE to go see this guy. He is an elementary art teacher. Art Teacher of the year in Tennessee. I want him to teach art at my school!
Take a look at his classroom... A~MAZ~ING! Wanna know why they are so good... cuz he is an art teacher!!
So back to my point? Kids are kids right. They need time to explore and be creative. They need art. I think we should bring it back as a special for all kids!! Do you have art at your school?
Oh and why I am picking on specials...
Did you know that PE now consists of sitting quietly in a room listening to a lecture on the pros and cons of being out in the sun and nature? Neither did I until this past week when my kiddos spent both of their 20 minutes of PE time being lectured. So much for wearing off a little energy....
Now
Ahhh - awesome website! Thanks for the suggestion :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't have art either and I am NOT artsy! I struggle to think of creative art projects for my students so thanks for the tip!

I was never very good at art, but I still loved it! Now, if I had had a poll in my school, well, I would have loved p.e. too! LOL I find it sad that these classes are disappearing. I wonder if there is a study on testing and anxiety, and how it seems all these older students are now on anti-anxiety meds. It just makes me wonder!
