Technology in the Classroom

One of the major focuses for new teachers is the integration of technology into the classroom. It is something that we are always asked to consider for every assignment from classroom management to behavior to actual lesson plans. Technology is everywhere!

A recommended item to purchase was an iPad. The classrooms in Arizona are Apple rooms meaning all the computers are Apples and many schools are utilizing iPads in the classroom. Being familiar with one is vital for us. So I bought one. In each class, we are introduced to new applications and new ways of working with our students through technology. It also makes for a very fun toy! I will be sharing some of my favorite apps with you in the future.

Classroom websites are now common form of communication to both the student and parent. I choose to build my website with Weebly Education. After much research, this site seems to have the best price for premium features but even without it, you have a lot of space, pages, and it is easy to use. I need EASY! Students each get their own accounts as well. Having a website and utilizing it was also part of a grad school assignment.

As with a lot of things, this site is a work in progress. I will need to wait until I have an actual class to finish it completely but I am very happy with the framework that I have created for my future students. Weebly has since added more features that I have not yet had time to play with. Please note that some pages are password protected - these pages will list student names and/or photographs and is designed to provide confidentiality to the students.

PS... don't forget to enter my 50 follower giveaway. I also hinted about my 100 follower giveaway in another post.

The bloggy makeover is under construction! Amy asked for a hint. It is black, red, & white. It is whimsical and fun (to go with the Seuss part of my blog title) and that is all I know. LOL!

I love having a classroom website! I started mine several years ago and have big plans to revamp it this summer now that I know so much more about web design. My favorite part is having a place to showcase the things we're learning in class every month. Parents LOVE seeing pictures. :) I also like the links I've compiled for educational games. My students can use our classroom laptops to play them as one of the early-finisher choices. Love that!

I also use Weebly for my classroom website. It is by far the easiest one I've used. I've even taken advantage of the Blog feature on it and my students write a blog for parents to read.
We also use an iPad and iPods in our classroom. I LOVE Apps Gone Free to find apps that are free for a limited time. They publish a new list daily.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today! :)

I do have a classroom webpage, but I honestly feel it is outdated. The information is good but it probably geared more for incoming parents than my current parents. I blog almost everyday about things we do in the classroom so parents can have discussions about learning at home. So, that is probably my most essential tool. But I also have a smartboard that I run my morning meetings on that the kids LOVE and to me it is the most essential technology other than the computer! I hate when there is an issue and I have to kick it old school.

Love your blog I can't wait to learn from you!

I am just on the brink of buying an iPad 2. I can't wait to hear what your recommendations are! Please do a post on all the apps you've learned about that you've found to be useful or have great potential to be useful. I know it can be an amazing tool in the classroom!

I saw your question on my blog about teaming up. Send me an email at dillydabbles@gmail.com and I'll be happy to answer your question. I didn't see your email on your blog.
I do have a class and a grade level blog, but I've gotten out of the habit of updating them since Christmas. I think next year, we'll just do the grade level blog. I'd love to have an ipad, I'm saving up ;).
