A Bug & A Wish, A Walk & A Wave

I learned something so cute during my practicum that I literally came straight home and onto the computer to share it all with you!!

Have you ever tried to teach your child or students "I statements"? It is so frustrating and difficult. The terminology just doesn't seem to fit into their little mouths.

Introducing... A BUG AND A WISH!

Its the same idea just in kid-friendly terminology!

This is so cute in the classroom and so much better than tattling. Kids understand when someone is bugging them and they understand wishes. Combining the two is pure genius!

Student 1: May I give you a bug and a wish?

Student 2: Yes, you may give me a bug and a wish.

(Student cannot say no to this request!)

Student 1: It bugs me when you..... . I wish you would.... .

For example: It bugs me when you kick my chair. I wish you would keep your feet on your side of the table.

I had to ask what happens when it doesn't work. For a minor issue, the student is taught to walk away. For a major issue, the student is taught to raise their hands or wave them in the air if outside. This indicates that a teacher is needed for assistance.
