Stack the States & Stack the Countries

I was out searching for applications on the web trying to load up my iPad with some applications that have an educational value but were fun. I wanted something 'different' and 'unique' which is sometimes difficult to find.

Stack the States gets 5 stars from me! The object of the game is to answer questions about the 50 states. The questions ask you to identify the states by shape, capitals, other major cities, bordering states, location, nickname, landmarks, and more. If you get it right, you get to try to stack up the states (and not fall into the PIT OF DOOM! (as my boys call it)) to win the level. There are flashcards to help you study but the game is so fun and user friendly, that you can easily skip over the flashcards and guess to learn!

The states are scaled to size when makes it even more fun to stack and you get to see how tiny Delaware is compared to Alaska. There are locked levels on this game that I have yet to reach (I need to spend more time with it but some child keeps 'borrowing' it to play more) which unlock new and more challenging games.

This application is designed to be used individual and has room for up to 6 players. However, I am sure it could be adapted to any classroom as a trivia based game. What a great fun way to entertain and teach your students!

I had so much fun with Stack the States that I just had to try out Stack the Countries! This app was a little more than the States version but there are more countries than states so I was good with the additional cost. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the additional features found in this application.

In the settings section, you can choose which language to run this application in. Great for those students learning a second (or third) language. Language options are currently limited to English, Spanish, and French. I can also choose how many continents I want to play with and how many questions. This is so great! I was really overwhelmed at the idea of learning about world geography is one giant dose. This allows me to learn continent by continent. Just like with Stack the States, you have room for up to 6 players (or 6 classes or teams if you choose to play in a group) and as your knowledge of geography increases, more game options are opened to you.

For $1.99, you simply can't find a more fun, educational curriculum to teach world geography that will keep you and your kids entertained and laughing for hours.
